Maybe it is inevitable… you start blogging for a little while (a short while in my case), and you find that you want to start playing around with plugins, the code, and the layout. Maybe this is just part of the blogging process.

So I started looking around for a new theme/style. There are a lot of nice looking themes out there. And having wordpress as the backend seems to provide you with limitless options. The more I learn about wordpress, the more I’m amazed at how feature rich it is. The plugin system is great. You just unzip the plugin, activate it, and your off and running.

My struggle now is really the shell– what theme or what theme framework to use. I’m currently using the rc2005 theme. I like it for its look and feel and because the code was well done, clean, and easy to read. I think that is a key for me. No matter what I do, I’ll probably see something that I want to tweak slightly so being able to quickly understand what is going on in the code is a major plus.

I stumbled upon k2 today. I only played around with for about 30 minutes, but so far, it has some promise. I like their modular approach and focus on supporting some of the more common (and cool) plugins. It is in beta now. I’m not sure I’m ready to take the leap, but I think I will keep an eye on it.
