Today google announced the launch of a free WiFi network covering the city of Mountain View. Sweet. Alice and I will be living in Mountain View after we get married. I can’t wait to try it out from our place and see how well it works. According to the coverage map we should be included.

I have been wondering what we would do about connectivity since I will be working from home. A couple of weeks ago, I brought over my laptop to see if there were any networks available that were open. When I brought up my laptop, it discovered 5-6 networks that all required a key to access. It occurred to us that it seems odd that so many people living in close proximity have their own networks. Alice suggested that I check with one of the neighbors to see if I could split the bill with them in exchange for the key to their network. Now it looks like we can all enjoy a free network (and save ~15/month).
